Free creative ageing training for North East artists
A FREE networking event for North East artists is being held this week in Newcastle.
Run by creative ageing charity Equal Arts, the artists’ session is open to artists interested in or currently working with older people, particularly in care settings.
The event is being held on March 8 at Ouseburn Farm in Byker from 12.30pm until 4.30pm with lunch included.
Equal Arts’ sessions explore the latest delivery models such as the Imagination Model as opposed to relying on reminiscence activities for older people.
Nicky Rushton, a musician and artist with the Gateshead-based charity, will lead the training alongside fellow musician Liz Corney.
She said: “Our training events always attract a lot of interest from those wanting to explore new techniques for creative sessions with older people and those living with dementia.
“Our latest training event will focus on how to use music in sessions to help communicate with people, even if you are not a musician.
“It is an opportunity to be inspired by what others are doing. Bringing creativity into care is incredibly important for the individual as it allows people to live in the moment. Memory may fade but imagination remains."
